Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group was lucky enough be invited to take part in the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens annual Children’s Discovery Day on Tuesday 10th July, 2018.

The aim of this wonderful community event is to provide education while entertaining children throughout the day. There is an emphasis on botanical and environmental learning activities with the hope of building an interest in plants and of course the environment. Activities have included plant propagation, craft activities, a biodiversity display, garden tours, a botanical Treasure Hunt, and an art and photography exhibition.

Staff from NCIG had a wonderful time speaking with local families about initiatives they are involved in regarding the environment and sustainability while also building further relationship with other organisations that attended with an interest in environmental issues and the local community.

“Getting out into the community is always a wonderful opportunity. We get to build awareness around the projects and initiatives that NCIG deliver in the local area” said Hayley Ardagh, NCIG Vacation Environmental Officer

“The volunteers from the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens should be proud of all the hard work they have put into this event and the beautiful gardens they maintain for everyone to enjoy”

This was the first year NCIG has attended the event and hope to continue to do so in the future. If you want to know more, register to volunteer or are looking for a great day out for your family click through to their website:  http://www.huntergardens.org.au/
