We take great pride in our operation and we are committed to the safety and health of all employees, contractors, visitors and the environment in which we operate. Our commitment to safety is achieved through the cooperation and teamwork of all people involved with our business.

We have developed our own Policies, Procedures and Rules based on the Acts and Regulations applying to the workplace. Everyone working or visiting the coal terminal is inducted and expected to adhere to our site safety requirements.

Employee Health and Wellness

What sets us apart from other businesses and operations is our commitment to the health and welfare of our people. We run on-site health programs for our employees which see them having access to health, diet and fitness services.

Newcastle Coal runs a Health and Wellbeing program titled ‘Bounce’, with the goal to positively impact upon the health and productivity of the workforce, their families and the business. The program includes a fully-funded gym program, access to physiotherapy for non-work related injuries, exercise physiologist and dietician services, a vaccination program, pre-employment medicals, voluntary biennial health assessments, periodical health and hygiene monitoring and health initiatives based upon identified workforce health needs.

We have seen some amazing results with an incredible 440 kilos lost across the business since the Bounce program began in 2013

Learning and development

Newcastle Coal is committed to the education and development of our people on a number of different platforms.  Form an organizational perspective , the Company runs workshops and development days for site wide initiatives on culture, leadership and teamwork. 

Newcastle Coal offers a generous study assistance policy to encourage employees to undertake external  studies of a nature that will enhance the skills of workforce. This thereby provides our people with the opportunity to develop while making a greater contribution to overall company performance. The study assistance policy includes reimbursement of fees, time off work for exams and, financial support for text books and other materials. 

Recognition and reward

Recognition is important to us at Newcastle Coal. We believe that individuals, teams and other groups deserve the recognition for achievement. Every employee has individual KPI's and also contributes to department and site KPI's. We undertake annual and half year performance appraisals where our people are given direct feedback on their performance. 

We also currently provide an impressive employee benefits program aimed at promoting family and health lifestyle such as company sponsored gym membership, income protection, sporting tickets and participation in various charity events (eg sailing, triathlons and maritime festivals).
